BRINGING A CONCEPT TO LIFE
Creating the video for Addicted To Lies was a deeply rewarding and uniquely challenging experience. From the outset, I wanted the visuals to reflect the haunting, introspective themes of the song—identity, digital illusion, and the struggle for authenticity in a curated world. What unfolded was a creative journey that pushed the boundaries of storytelling and technology.
It began with a vision: a story told through fragmented realities, where characters and scenes would blur the lines between truth and illusion. To shape this idea, I worked with AI tools like ChatGPT, using it as a brainstorming partner to refine the narrative and develop a cohesive thread. Together, we explored ideas that would evolve into the framework for the video.
Next came the visual storytelling. I turned to Midjourney to create highly detailed images that captured the tone of the piece. These weren’t just static visuals—they were deeply styled, interconnected frames designed to flow seamlessly between scenes. Crafting a consistent “character” across these images was critical to maintaining the emotional resonance of the story.
Animating these images in Runway was both exhilarating and painstaking. Each frame came to life through countless hours of trial and error, adjusting prompts and fine-tuning animations to ensure the movement felt organic. Yet, as the pieces began to come together, gaps emerged in the narrative. Certain transitions felt incomplete, so I returned to the beginning, creating new images and animations to fill the missing moments.
The final assembly took place in Premiere, where every element—visuals, animation, and sound—was woven into a cohesive whole. Even the audio saw some last-minute adjustments, with sections shortened to keep the story moving forward.
This video is more than just a companion to Addicted To Lies; it’s an exploration of how art and technology can intersect to tell stories that resonate on a deeply human level. It’s a testament to the fluid collaboration between creativity and the tools at our disposal, where each challenge became an opportunity to push the project further.
