Spruce Street INSTALLATION
The goal for this installation was to create an immersive and interactive sound world that would bring this impressive LED light show to life in the public’s hands.
I worked closely with FKB’s in-house team of electrical engineers and artistic architects using a 3D lighting schematic to create a sonic experience designed to draw people into the depth and width of the space. As no one from the team had created anything like this before, there was a lot of problem-solving involved in finding the most elegant solutions to a project with many moving parts.
Using an X-Y-Z axis I was able to throw sound to any part of the light field and composed waves of sound that pulsed alongside the changing colour palettes. I also created a series of sound-to-light effects that mirrored the gravitational movement of lighting patters across the park. I then built a bespoke Ableton algorithm that allowed us to test the end product, using various scales of probability to mimic members of the public making random playback choices by pressing areas of the touch sensitive controller that FKB built.
I was thrilled to hear that the client commented that “The music transformed what was a cool tech-demo into a fully immersive experience”.
This is the kind of creative cutting-edge work that I’m very excited to do more of in the coming years.
