Jacob KRIEGEL WAS HERE. BRIEFLY.
2011 was a strange time in my creative life.
I’d had an amazing year in 2010 having won a Beatport Award for having the best selling breaks track of the year after my Revamped Album exploded. I also won a Breakspoll Award for Best Producer and my label, U&A Recordings, took an award for best label. I was running U&A single-handedly and releasing an unstoppable barrage of genre-neutral electronic music with an excellent roster of young talent under my wing. I’d recently launched a new alias, Zodiac Cartel, which no one knew was me and was remixing the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Moby, Fukkk Off and The Subs (amongst many more), and I also had a new project on the go with my old studio sparring partner Meat Katie under the name Dustbowl.
At the time there was a slew of quality techno appearing from Eastern Europe, and it seemed like the best way to tap into that zeitgeist was with an Eastern European name of some sort. I found an online name generator and thus Jacob Kriegel was born. I only used that name for a single remix release in 2011 when I was putting together a series of EPs under the United & Anarchic banner.
Fast-forward to 2021 and the discovery of an alternative mix of Dustbowl - Tipton by my Eastern European doppelganger. I personally prefer this one to the version that was originally released (it’s a little more subtle), so decided to remaster it and gift it to the dedicated readers of my website.
